"There is a call to gallows, friends,
will any of you go!
Those who do talk of love may Know
to gallows they must speed."
The stanza says that a lover will speed up towards gallows when he is called up as this will prove him a "true lover"
Gallows is an instrument of execution consisting of a wooden frame from which a condemned person is executed by hanging.
So is he saying that death will prove you a true lover?
OR
Death will quench your thirst?
The call to gallows is call to death, but who knows what would this execution take away with it? Either it would execute the lover or execute his self into the selflessness, I wonder.....
The Call to gallows is from the Beloved to the lover so he can see who is true lover and who is not. The fana and wesal is what the gallows signifies.
Thanks for sharing your though Urooj.
One interesting thing i "just" observed that Bhitai didn't say of "using" the gallows... There's a call, and lover will simply move towards it.
Now if we analyze your question in this way, second part of your wonderment "execute his self into the selflessness" is making more sense.
I am glad to read your comment Sir Akhtar :)
I will agree with your point. It's a test to see who's the "True lover"
BTW, what's the meaning of "wesal"?
