The Echo and the call are same,
if you sound's secret knew
They both were one, but two became
only when 'hearing' came.
We'll go word by word:
- Call: I think this word has been used for the "messenger/teacher" here. Like the one who tells or delivers you certain message/thought. I think we can take it as "source of the message" as well
- Echo: Scientifically, it is the repetition of a sound resulting from reflection of the sound waves. In this context, "message taker/interpreter" is being represented by this word.
- Sound: The medium through which the message/thought is coming.
- Sound's secret: The secret way to use this medium. It is a secret as we don't know it yet, but he knows it.(Bhitai has used the word "you" instead of "we" in the second line. So i am asuming that he knew this secret)
- Hearing: Scientifically, it is one of the Human's senses to understand any message. Here this word can be taken as the "resistance" to understand the message/thought.
As far as I've undersood, Bhitai is saying that whoever is giving a message to you, in any form, in any reflection, every echo is equal to the call. So when we look at world in this manner, everywhere is source and every thing is covered in light.
But due to our desire to be "different" from others, and to walk with our heads up, we start to see impurities in this World, in every scene, in every thought, in every color...
So we'll have to hear the message as Bhitai has heard. But we can only "repair" or "improve" our hearing after we know the sound's secret.
My understanding is that the message and the messenger is same, there is no difference in the sound and the instrument and this is the secret. The call is the origin and the sound is its creation and one comes after other, if you reverse the order the reality would still be same.

If I take it in terms of light, its just like we see our own reflection in the mirror... the same person on both sides. The origin and the creation is the same unless we want to see a difference b/w ourself and the person in the mirror or in terms of sound b/w the Echo and the Call!

Yeah "hearing" is the only resistance in understanding the truth. But i am thinking that isn't it natural?
Like every sense has its limitation. That's why after Sun sets, we can't see the other side of Earth (where the
same Sun shines, and people of that region of Earth label it as "day time")
but at the same time, people like Rumi, Iqbal, Bhitai etc understood this message. So if they can, everybody can.

Thank you for coming Talha. Yeah you are right. but this doesn't mean that you ignore the messenger. He is important as well. Because sometimes, you yourself are the messenger, bringing message to yourself :)

i guess the poet is trying to say that since we dont know the sound's secret so we had interpreted the message according to our understanding which has made the call and echo (the message and its repetition) different from each other

because we all have our lacking....i shud say we all have our limits of understanding which is not the same among each and every human, it depends on one's mental growth and we decipher the meaning of a message according to the limits of our understanding...it is just like our hearing range that one can hear up to20 khz same goes for understanding or absorbing the meaning of the message but the only difference is that it all depends upon one's capability as in the mental growth one has due to his knowledge and experiences
and i would also like to say it is not misinterpretation but an interpretation according to our own level of understanding

Yup! I'd like to add that "Human" is capable of things which we don't know properly, which the Human race is still exploring... Science alone is not able to answer the mysteries of Universe.
